Vacancy Short Description : To support delivery of the day-to-day services of the Environmental Services Unit by dealing with technical support tasks carried out by the various teams.

 

Qualifications Required : Must have 4 GCSE’s at grade A* - C or 9 - 4 including Maths & English (or a level 2 Business Administration Apprenticeship, or Principles of Business & Administration level 2 certificate)
Vacancy Full Description : £6.70 per hour (if aged over 21 years)
£5.30 per hour (if aged 18 – 20 years)
£3.87 per hour (if under 18 years but above the compulsory school age)
An exciting opportunity to assist the various teams within Environmental Services which delivers key front line services to the residents and business of Bedford and holds a budgetary spend of £12.8 million by:

• To provide technical support to the front line services of Grounds Maintenance, Cleansing, Parks, Open Spaces, Refuse and Recycling.
• To work effectively with other team members to ensure a consistent delivery of service for the section.
• To maintain records, data and update the Councils GIS system along with other specialist programmes for route optimisation and rounds for the front line services.
• With the assistance of the Council’s I.T. division, assist with developing systems and spreadsheets for the efficient delivery of front line services covering all the functions of the service and any other requirements, including the improvement and management of such systems thereafter.
• To produce reports and deal with technical amendments to plans and maps
• Checking the validity of correspondence/forms received, ensuring details have been completed and authorised correctly before updating the council’s records.
• To prepare, review and update technical support procedures covering various aspects of the service area to ensure the throughput of work meets adopted performance requirements
• Carrying out any other duties as appropriate, as requested by the manager.

Working Week : Mon-Fri 9am - 5pm
Salary : £143.19 Per Week

Personal Qualities : Must have an interest in working in an Environmental environment, and in ICT programmes such as GIS, DIGITAL Routing systems and other state of the art systems used by the councils to manage its front line services.

The role will involve dealing with personal and occasionally sensitive details about members of the public and businesses. The Apprentice will therefore be required to abide by data protection law.
Skills Required : Be comfortable communicating with a wide range of people

Have an real interest in IT and be confident using a variety of programs

Be well organised and able to meet deadlines

Must enjoy working with others as part of a team

Training to be Provided : • The post holder will receive an agreed training and development programme and will be mentored by the manager.
• The post holder will develop a wide range of general technical and customer service related skills by interacting with colleagues within the Environmental Services Unit, and other staff employed by the Council across a wide range of services.
• The Post Holder will gain skills in the updating of the computerised plotting systems (GIS) and work on state of the art systems for tracking and managing the council’s fleet of vehicles.
• The post holder will gain knowledge of the services provided by Environmental Services within a large organisation, and the legislation and policies that dictate practice and policy.

The Wage for apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.
Things to consider : One role is predominantly based in Borough Hall and the other is with the Operations Team at our Brunel Road Depot in Bedford.
