Qualifications Required : You will need a minimum of three GCSEs at grades A*-D / 9-3 or Level 1 equivalent, ideally including English, math's, science and or a technical based subject such as engineering or product design.

Some of the typical skills and duties you will learn throughout your Apprenticeship are:

Typical turning skills
Switching machine on & zeroing all axis
Moving machine axis manually using M.P.G.
Switching machine off and leaving axes in correct position
Loading tools onto turret safely and accurately
Fitting jaws onto chuck safely
Fitting collets correctly ensuring cleanliness and tightening
Setting tool offsets
Fitting centre into tailstock correctly, ensuring cleanliness
Setting correct pressures for chucks or collets
Using collets in toolholders correctly ensuring cleanliness and tightening
Fitting inserts into tools correctly
Fitting collet chuck and/or 3 jaw chuck correctly
Loading program into machine
Downloading program from machine to directory
Correct use of tailstock
Set and use barfeeders
Boring out chuck jaws
Setting up of 'u' drills correctly

Typical milling skills
Clamping vice to bed and clocking for alignment
Clamping chuck to bed and clocking for alignment
Switching Machine on and zeroing out on all axis
Loading tools into spindle manually, making sure taper is clean
Moving machine table and indexer manually using MPG
Using clamps correctly
Switching machine off and leaving axis in correct positions
Loading cutting tools into toolholders ensuring cleanliness and tightening
Loading program into machine from directory
Using wobbler to set zeros
Saving program from machine to directory
Setting tool lengths in toolholders
Load correct jaws to vices for relevant jobs (check vices)
Calling up relevant pallet for required job or operation (i.e. Pallet A or B)

Working Week : Monday - Thursday 06.30 - 5.00pm
Salary : £220.00 Per Week

Skills Required : You must have good manual dexterity and the ability to work with numbers.
Ideally you will already have engineering experience and be working towards a qualification at college

EMTA LEVEL 2 AWARD IN PERSONAL LEARNING AND THINKING SKILLS
EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CG LEVEL 2 FUNCTIONAL SKILLS QUALIFICATION IN ENGLISH

Other Information : Please note you will need to be in work for 6.30am - please make sure you are able to do this before applying.

Candidates must attend an initial interview with a member of the Bedford College Apprenticeship Recruitment Team and complete an online Maths and English test which will be sent out prior to your initial interview if you meet the entry criteria. Please note this is part of the recruitment process and must be completed in order for your application to be progressed to the next stage.
Things to consider : Precision engineering requires exacting standards in terms of the quality of work carried out, thus our apprentices are expected to achieve the highest standards attainable each and every day.

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE NOT CURRENTLY STUDYING TOWARDS A RECOGNISED ENGINEERING QUALIFICATION YOU WILL HAVE TO COMPLETE A 3 MONTH TRIAL PERIOD BEFORE A FORMAL OFFER CAN BE MADE
